“How much milage can you get from a frame?”

Client: EFG - European Furniture Group

Role: Product Designer, Constructor

Task: Invite Chair - Expression Study

Year: 2011

When working at EFG (European Furniture Group),  a Swedish furniture designer mainly focusing on offices, a task was to explore a possible update of their “Invite Chair”. A study was conducted to see how much could be done in appearance, working from a single steel frame. Three directions where taken, one with the steel frame covered in a string material, one with a solution that covered the steel frame and one final solution that showed the frame.

Appropriate materials for either solutions where examined and a mock-up of the “string solution” where made with a rubber string material. The string solution didn’t need any fitting solution since the strings could wrap around the frame but the more solid  solutions needed an idea how to fasten them. After considering this, quick renderings where made of all three different solutions.

The exploration ended with a presentation for the production team at EFG.
